Angel in the Fall

It is sunrise as she wakes without wings
light touches her face
but not like when she was touched by grace.

Today she has asked to deal her own hand
for the fading kiss of a simple man.
What she's left behind cannot be replaced
but as it arrives it will be embraced
this thing every man has always chased.

It is daylight and too bright to see,
but it is not with her eyes that she feels.
What she puts her lips upon is so real
that it not even heaven can steal.

The charms of a man - the precious creation
his whimsical ways and endless aspiration.
When fatherly love has given its fill
she inhales her breath for a bond more so still.

And though it will die as each man does
and though it will bite as each dog does
it is heaven's purest dove:
the kiss of two which entails love.

There is no reason or rhyme at all
in every season, she's an angel in the Fall.
